It was an all-metal aircraft with a low-wing configuration, distinctive elliptical wings, a classic tail, and retractable landing gear. The prototype’s maiden flight took place on March 5, 1936. The Spitfire proved to be the backbone of the RAF’s war effort, continuing to perform well after the war and remaining in production for 10 years. The history of the Spitfire began on the drawing board of R.J. Mitchell, Supermarine’s chief designer. The first aircraft were delivered to RAF units in 1938, but by the time the Battle of Britain began in the summer of 1940, there were already 19 squadrons of modern fighters at airfields—along with the slightly older Hurricane “Islands,” 600 aircraft were defending the skies. As hostilities expanded, the Spitfire saw service wherever the RAF operated—in the Far East, North Africa, and Italy; during the Normandy landings and the fighting in France; and finally during the campaign in Germany in 1945. For many Britons, it became a symbol of victory in World War II. This marvelous aircraft has at least a dozen production variants. The most significant include, among others, the first mass-produced Spitfire Mk.I, powered by a 1,030 CV Rolls-Royce Merlin II engine. It was primarily this aircraft that made such an outstanding contribution to the Battle of Britain. Many versions of this model were developed, including the PR Mk IA (reconnaissance version) and the PR.IG (armed reconnaissance version). Another interesting version was the Spitfire Mk.V, equipped with a 1,440 CV Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine. Later, Merlin 50 engines were also installed. Mass production of this version began in 1941 and was the RAF’s response to the appearance of the Messerschmitt Bf-109F. Another highly successful version is the Spitfire Mk.IX, powered by a Merlin 61 engine with a four-bladed propeller. It was designed to counter the Focke-Wulf Fw-190 and entered production in late 1941. This version underwent several modifications; for example, in 1944 it was equipped with a new gyroscopic sight, a wider rudder, and a different wing configuration. Another major variant is the Spitfire Mk.XIV, equipped with a Rolls-Royce Griffon 61 engine and a five-bladed propeller. Mass production began in October 1943. One of the last series produced was the Mk.21 version. This version had a Griffon 61 engine, a heavily reinforced airframe and fuselage, and the wings were lengthened, increasing their wing area. Mass production began in March 1945. Technical specifications (Mk.XIV version): length: 9.14 m, wingspan: 11.23 m, height: 3.05 m, maximum speed: 717 km/h, rate of climb: 18.5 m/s, service ceiling: 13,200 m, maximum range: 1,815 km, armament: fixed—4 × 7.7 mm machine guns and 2 × 20 mm Hispano Mk II cannons; external—up to 225 kg of bombs.

Focke-Wulf Fw 189A “Owls over the Eastern Front” model kit in 1/72 scale - Special Hobby model. In 1937, the RLM (Reich Aviation Ministry) issued specifications for a new Luftwaffe reconnaissance aircraft. Blohm & Voss with its asymmetrical BV 141, Arado with the single-engine Ar 198, and Focke-Wulf with the Fw 189 design participated in the competition. The winner was Focke-Wulf.Like the BV 141, the Fw 189 was distinguished by an unusual technical design. Chief designer Kurt Tank designed the aircraft with a central nacelle in the fuselage and two tail booms extending from the engine nacelles. This provided the three-person crew with excellent visibility. The prototype made its first flight in July 1938, and the first pre-production models of the Fw 189 A-0 were delivered in September 1940. Production continued with the first production version, the Fw 189 A-1. It was manufactured at the Focke-Wulf plant in Bremen, where production was soon halted to make way for the Fw 190. Starting in March 1941, the Prague Aero plant supplied the Fw 189 (production ceased in 1943). Additional Fw 189s were produced until 1944 at the French plants in Bordeaux-Mérignac. In the second half of 1941, the A-1 version was replaced on the production lines by the A-2 version, which featured more powerful armament. A small series of B versions, intended for training and liaison duties, was also built; these differed in the shape of the fuselage nacelle and other details. A ground-attack version, designated Fw 189C, was tested on prototypes; the first prototype, the Fw 189V1, crashed, and even the modified prototype, the Fw 189V-6, failed to prove convincing.  The vast majority of Fw 189s saw service on the Eastern Front. The Focke-Wulf Fw 189 A proved capable of taking off from unpaved runways, with excellent maneuverability and reliability. Several Fw 189A-1s were even equipped with the FuG-212 Lichtenstein C-1 radar and a slanting cannon and used as night fighters in Romania in 1944. The Fw 189 also saw service in the Slovak, Hungarian, and Romanian air forces. The Fw 189A-1 SH72546 kit includes three sheets of plastic parts, one sheet of clear parts, and 3D-printed parts. The decals depict two German aircraft, a captured Soviet aircraft, and a Norwegian aircraft. The latter, originally German and from the Eastern Front, flew to Norway shortly before the end of the war and was used by the Norwegian Air Force after the conflict.- Model kit of an unusual-looking car- Interesting color combinations

HI-TECH 1/72 Scale AT-6 Texan / Harvard “Little Warrior” Aircraft Kit - Special Hobby Model. The AT-6 Texan/Harvard was used primarily for training during World War II. However, North American had already anticipated, during the design phase, that some operators would use the Texan as a combat aircraft. After World War II, it became clear that the Texan was excellent for counterinsurgency operations and also in the role of FAC (Forward Air Control). Squadrons of Texans, nicknamed “Mosquito,” were deployed by the USAF during the Korean War. European countries such as France, Spain, Great Britain, and Portugal used armed Texans in colonial or anti-communist conflicts in Africa. Texans fought against the communists in Greece. They were deployed in the early Arab-Israeli wars by both sides. Texans were also used in combat in South America during numerous conflicts, uprisings, and revolutions. The kit features Academy’s AT-6 fuselages, complete with our new injection-molded canopies for the various versions. The kit also includes 3D-printed, resin, and photo-etched landing gear parts for Texans from various air forces. The decals include two USAF aircraft from the Korean War, a French aircraft from the Algerian War with a beast’s mouth painted on the fuselage, a Spanish Texan armed with wing-mounted machine guns, a Syrian aircraft whose gunner shot down an S-199 fighter, and finally an Israeli Air Force Harvard.- Eye-catching color schemes and decals- 3D-printed parts that reproduce the underwing armament- A selection of aircraft with interesting histories and appearances
