ArmorFx Zimmerit Paste The Zimmerit coating, developed by the German chemical company Chemische Werke Zimmer & Co., was applied to German armored vehicles between the middle and end of World War II, specifically from August 1943 to September 1944. The function of this coating was to protect armored vehicles from the HEAT magnetic infantry mines that were placed on their surfaces. The idea was to apply a layer of Zimmerit paste to the armor to create a rough, non-magnetic surface that would reduce the possibility of mines sticking to the vehicle. The coating was imprinted with textured, often wavy or grid-like patterns using special tools. These patterns were not only highly distinctive, but also increased the effectiveness of the Zimmerit by reducing the contact area of the magnets with the vehicle surface.
