RAF Dark Green strips.
The Royal Air Force, often abbreviated as the RAF, is the current air force of the United Kingdom and an integral part of the United Kingdom's armed forces.
It was established on April 1, 1918, assuming a significant role in British military history. The RAF in particular represented Britain's main and most powerful armed force in World War II, distinguishing itself in both the defensive role of the Battle of Britain and the offensive role played by Bomber Command with bombing raids on Germany, the same it did in Korea.
The RAF currently operates 738 aircraft and, as of April 1, 2020, has a personnel strength of 32,940. Most RAF aircraft and personnel are based in the UK, but a percentage are serving in overseas operations (especially Iraq and Afghanistan) or at overseas bases (see the Falkland Islands and Cyprus).
The RAF celebrated its 90th birthday with a formation of Red Arrows and 4 Eurofighter Typhoons that flew over many air bases and even central London.
