1/72 F-117A 3D-Printed & colored Interior on decal paper (Hasegawa)
The Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk was a single-seat, twin-engine, jet-powered, U.S. stealth ground attack aircraft developed by Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works design office for the United States Air Force. The first flight of the F-117A took place in 1981, and the aircraft reached initial operating capability (IOC) in October 1983. The design was kept secret until it was unveiled to the public in November 1988.
Commonly dubbed a "stealth fighter," it was actually a ground attack aircraft, although designated with an "F" abbreviation, like USAF fighters. Derived from experiences with the Have Blue technology demonstrator, it became the first operational aircraft to make extensive use of stealth technologies, which were widely publicized during its use in the Gulf War.
The U.S. Air Force withdrew the F-117 from service on April 22, 2008 primarily because of the introduction into service of the later F-22 Raptor and in anticipation of the imminent delivery of the F-35 Lightning II. Sixty-four examples were built, divided between five prototypes and 59 production aircraft. There was also a design for a variant for the U.S. Navy, called the F-117N Seahawk with folding wings, but it remained without follow-up.
