The Dornier Do 335 "Pfeil" ("Arrow" in German), company designation P 231, was an experimental twin-engine, low-wing, multirole heavy fighter produced by Germany's Dornier-Werke GmbH in 1943.

Designed as a high-speed fighter, it represented the pinnacle of piston aircraft design: despite its considerable weight (more than 10 tons fully loaded), thanks to its two Daimler-Benz DB 603 engines it reached 750 km/h at 6400 meters altitude, the fastest German piston aircraft of World War II.

It had a system, patented in 1937, of two axially placed motor-propeller units: one forward of the fuselage, the other behind the cockpit, which drove the rear propeller. The Pfeil's performance was far superior to any other design due to its tractor-pusher configuration. The Do 335 was introduced during the final stages of World War II, when by then the Luftwaffe was in a critical situation: only 38 planes were delivered.

The Dornier Do 335 Pfeil was the pinnacle of the propeller-driven fighter plane; the next generation of planes would have jet propulsion.
