1/72 Hawk 200 light fighter (#ZG201, 4x camo)
The British Aerospace Hawk 200 is a single-seat, single-engine light multi-role fighter designed for air defense , air denial , anti-shipment , interdiction , close air support and ground attack.
In 1984, British Aerospace (now BAE Systems ) decided to pursue the development of a combat-oriented variant of the Hawk aircraft, designated as the Hawk 200; until that time, the Hawk family had typically been employed by operators as an advanced trainer with secondary combat capabilities. A single flying demonstration aircraft was produced to support the development process. This made its first flight on May 19, 1986.
Less than two months after the first flight, the Hawk 200 demonstrator was lost in a fatal accident at Dunsfold Aerodrome , killing BAe test pilot Jim Hawkins; Hawkins is presumed to have become disoriented or fallen unconscious, due to g-LOC (g-induced loss of consciousness), while performing high-gravity maneuvers to explore the aircraft's agility.
Despite the loss of the demonstrator, the company decided to proceed with the Hawk 200; the first pre-production samples were manufactured in 1987. In 1990, the Hawk 200 received its first order when Oman decided to procure a batch of twelve Hawk 203 , all delivered by 1993.
