1/48 Grumman EA-6B Prowler 'Final Countdown Movie'
The Grumman EA-6B Prowler ("Predator" in Italian) was a carrier-embarkable electronic warfare aircraft with a crew of four. The EA-6B was derived from the A-6 Intruder attack aircraft and featured a bulb on the end of the vertical drift, mid-mounted wings, powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney J52 turbofans, air intakes located in the lower part of the fuselage, and a twin cockpit with side-by-side seating.
Over the years, in addition to being considered the world's best electronic jamming platform, it has also been equipped with the capability to carry out enemy air defense suppression (SEAD) missions using AGM-88 HARM missiles, and has also been used for this purpose in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Prowler prototype first flew on May 25, 1968, and entered service with the U.S. Navy in 1971. The Prowler's long operational life ended on March 8, 2019, following the introduction of the new E/A-18 Growler.
The Grumman EA-6B Prowler is also the type of aircraft that, on February 3, 1998, sheared the cables of a cable car on Cermis, killing 20 people.
