The de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito was a monoplane, twin-engine aircraft made by the British de Havilland Aircraft Company in the late 1930s.
Employed during World War II, it proved to be extremely versatile and was used in a variety of roles by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and many other Allied air forces in both the European and Pacific and Mediterranean theaters; in several armed forces it was retained in service beyond the war period and was also used by the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) as a transport aircraft.
Affectionately nicknamed "Mossie" (short for "mosquito" in English), it also had other nicknames, mainly related to the airframe's wooden construction: The Wooden Wonder, The Timber Terror, and, less respectfully, The Termite's Dream. It was the basis for the development of the de Havilland Hornet heavy fighter and its naval derivative Sea Hornet.
