NH90 in detail
The NHI NH90 (NATO Helicopter for the 1990s) is a medium twin-turbine multi-role helicopter with a four-bladed rotor, developed since the 1990s by the international consortium NHIndustries, consisting of Leonardo (a new Finmeccanica name assumed since 2017, previously by AgustaWestland, which merged into Leonardo-Finmeccanica in 2016), Franco-German Eurocopter and Dutch Stork Fokker Aerospace.
The NH90 is the world's first fully "fly-by-wire" helicopter and is made using composite materials extensively. Deployed since 2007 by the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) and since 2008 by the Italian Army, it has been ordered by the armed forces of many countries around the world.
The designation used by the Italian Ministry of Defense is UH-90A for the land version (TTH), and SH-90A for the naval version (NFH). This acronym refers to the Sea Helicopter designation; the Navy's SH90 aircraft are stationed at Sarzana-Luni Helicopter Station and Taranto-Grottaglie Aircraft Station for the NFH version.
