1/48 AN/ALQ-184 ECM pod short length for A-10, F-4G, F-16, C-130 (3D printing)
The ALQ-184 is designed to neutralize all types of radar-based threats . For this purpose, several traveling wave tubes are used for signal amplification. Interference signals are then precisely aligned with the target using , among other things, two directional antennas , which greatly increases efficiency, especially when using the random noise principle. The system can also detect and fight several radar stations in parallel.
Housed in an external pod, the ALQ-184 can be easily connected to a suitable armed station under the wings of the transport aircraft. It can be deployed in a 2- or 3-band configuration, with the latter specializing in jamming low-frequency radar. Therefore, the container in this version is also longer and heavier. Raytheon has now released a major upgrade with the AN/ALQ-184(V)9. In this variant, the container was also equipped with an AN/ALE-50 towed decoy, which is intended to lure enemy guided missiles away from the transport aircraft. The current version is the AN/ALQ-184(V)11.
More than 950 systems have been produced and delivered. In addition to the US Air Force, customers include the Air Force of the Republic of China (Taiwan) . The system was also used in the Second Gulf War and was characterized by high effectiveness and low downtime.
