Description

1/72 B-25J SPACE (for Hasegawa/Eduard)

The North American B-25 Mitchell was a twin-engine, monoplane medium-wing bomber developed by the U.S. aircraft company North American Aviation in the late 1930s and primarily employed by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II and regarded as one of the best medium bombers of the conflict. The official designation incorporated the name "Mitchell" in honor of General Billy Mitchell, one of the first great advocates of the use of air power for military purposes.

Sixteen B-25 Mitchells, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle, with the famous bombing raid on Tokyo first struck the territory of Japan in the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack. The bombers completed the operation by taking off from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet, 925 kilometers off the Japanese coast; the first time heavy aircraft such as the B-25 successfully took off from an aircraft carrier.

About 10,000 were built, including PBJ-1 naval patrol and F-10 reconnaissance versions. It was employed in all theaters of operation by several countries, including Britain (which received more than 900), Australia, China, the Netherlands, and the Soviet Union.
