1/35 Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. J (2 in 1)
The Panzer III, short for its full name Panzerkampfwagen III, whose German Army identification number was Sd.Kfz. 141, was a medium tank of World War II.
It was designed in the light of experience gained from the use of the Panzer I and II and, according to the plans of the German General Staff, became for a number of years the main tank of the Panzer-Divisions created expressly as an anti-tank vehicle to counter opposing armored vehicles, a role it filled successfully from 1940 to 1942. The Panzer III, improved over time by upgrading the main armament and thickening the armor, constituted in the early part of World War II the core and strength of the German Panzer-Divisions that extended Nazi Germany's dominance over much of Europe. The J version, equipped with a 50-mm long 60-caliber cannon (L/60), was able to counter even more powerful vehicles, demonstrating that in tank combat it was essential to have high initial speed armament.
However, from 1943 onward, the Panzer III was gradually overtaken by the introduction of more heavily armored and heavily armed enemy vehicles; the Wehrmacht therefore preferred to withdraw it from the front line in the second part of the war and employ new, more powerful tanks to counter the Allies' growing numerical and technical superiority.
