1/72 MV-22B Osprey `VMM-265 Dragons 2022`
The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey (osprey) is a medium tiltrotor for military use produced by Bell, for the U.S. military.
This aircraft is the result of the JVX (Joint Vertical-lift Experimental) program initiated in December 1981, launched by then U.S. Secretary of Defense Frank Carlucci. The order was awarded jointly to Bell Helicopter Textron and Boeing Vertol. The need for an aircraft of such characteristics was formulated by the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, which demanded the transportability of 24 equipped soldiers 370 km away.
The first prototype of the V-22 Osprey aircraft was officially unveiled in Arlington, Texas, on May 23, 1988. On Dec. 1, 1989, Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney decreed that the entire program be suspended due to the significant increase in production costs. The program was later reactivated, and the first combat mission in Iraq took place on May 2, 2008, after a six-month operational deployment primarily in the transport role.
